Construction can no longer be based on the wasteful use of materials – the circular economy as a business model brings economic benefits
The sustainability crisis is also evident in the construction sector – we must move away from the wasteful use of natural resources. The circular economy approach makes use of the recycling, repair and reuse of materials. The industrial and construction sectors have great potential to utilise the Earth’s limited resources more efficiently through the circular economy. As an operational model, the circular economy also brings economic benefits, for example through new operating models.

Regional circular economy studies
A circular economy assessment is used to identify the materials generated by the project, as well as their quality, quantity and location. It also identifies which materials are available within the project’s operating environment and how these could be utilised within the project.
Recycled Materials Services
The use of recycled materials can help to reduce the volume of waste. Rather than ending up as waste, the reuse of materials enables a more resource-efficient use of materials and reduces the need to use finite natural resources.
There is a growing desire to utilise recycled materials in projects. As these materials are new, their suitability must be assessed to ensure the proper functionality of structures, the safe use of materials and the long-term technical performance of structures.
