Project engineer trainee Sanni

29/06/2021

Hi, I’m Sanni Heikkinen. I work on the Oulu-Kontiomäki and Kontiomäki-Pesiökylä rail projects as a project engineer trainee. I started working for Welado at the beginning of May, and so far, my responsibilities have included preparing project documents and secretarial work. My work has been interesting and educational, as I’ve never worked in rail construction management before.

Infrastructure as a field is interesting, because anyone with even a little curiosity towards it will be able to find something interesting to do. You might be enthusiastic about calculations, data models, or project management; be an introvert, an extrovert, or something in between; the field will have engaging work for anyone.

For me it was clear that my strengths lie in office work and social interaction, and that’s exactly what I’ve been able to do at Welado. Welado is a great place to work from an employee’s perspective, because you can influence your own job description according to your own interests.

I study construction and civil engineering at the University of Oulu, and as my studies have progressed, it’s become clear to me that, in my career, I don’t want to focus on design work, which is why it was so great to find Welado and be able to pursue and develop my own strengths and interests with construction management.

Working at Welado really supports my studies, and in turn the field I study has so far supported my work at Welado. I attended a course on construction management organised by Welado at the university, which I found really interesting. The course is actually what made me want to apply to be project engineer at Welado in the first place.

In addition to facilitating my studies, working at Welado is also guiding my career in the more people-oriented direction that I want. The Welado way of working offers good preparation for your studies and future work, so I can recommend Welado as a summer employer for students in infrastructure or those interested in the field.

Wishing you a great summer from the office, Sanni
